WAY STEADY PRODUCTIONS
Spenser Robnett is a Detroit based filmmaker and social media manager. He graduated from the University of Michigan’s Film, TV, & Media program and went on to lead a media team documenting the Northern Realms Humanities Collaboratory – an expedition to Northern Mongolia researching the spread of Buddhism during the rule of Genghis Khan. He also won Best Documentary at the LightWorks film festival for The Maze, an autobiographical film about his battle with addiction during his time at U of M and the journey of recovery in the midst of a fentanyl epidemic.
In 2024, Spenser founded Way Steady Productions, an independent media company championing authentic storytelling and innovative filmmaking, blending creativity with meaningful narratives. The short film Just a Taste, filmed in the Summer of’24, serves as a dynamic proof of concept for the feature film Scary Cherry and spotlights Northern Michigan’s National Cherry Festival, blending local culture with horror to celebrate the region’s iconic cherry heritage in a uniquely thrilling way.

artist spotlight
Way Steady is currently finishing up production on the feature length documentary Wax On, which tells the life story of DJ Candlestick, the premier “chopped and screwed” DJ in the country. Set in Houston, the film explores his timely rise to stardom in slowed down music scene, working with artists like Drake, Don Toliver, and many others. The film touches on the tragic overdose of the DJ Screw, for whom the genre is named after, and how DJ Candlestick carries his legacy on.
