From the zombie-infested cherry orchards of Just a Taste to the chaotic transformations of Hair of the Dog (in Production), Way Steady’s work reflects a unique perspective and a commitment to bold, original narratives. Our films are not only creative but also build engaging worlds that connect with audiences on both emotional and visceral levels.

Just a Taste is a northern Michigan horror film set during the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City. When two cherry pickers discover that their cherries turn anyone who eats them into flesh eating zombies, they must escape the orchard in order to rescue the woman they love most. Just a Taste is set to premiere at film festivals during the Winter ’25 and is a proof of concept for the FEAR MICHIGAN feature film, Scary Cherry.
From Houston’s slow-rolling streets to the global stage, Wax On: The Candlestick Story follows DJ Candlestick of The Chopstars as he keeps the legacy of Chopped & Screwed alive. What begins as a tribute to DJ Screw becomes a meditation on rhythm, resilience, and the power of community in hip-hop.
The Maze is an autobiographical documentary about my personal battle with addiction and the hope for recovery during my time at the University of Michigan. The film explores themes of such as the necessity of adversity, reliance on community support, and the deep trauma that the fentanyl epidemic brings on so many of us.
Northern Realms follows a University of Michigan research team across Mongolia in search of traces of Tibetan Buddhism along the ancient Silk Road. What they uncover is less a map of religion than a meditation on how belief, empire, and memory move across time and landscape.
When a mad Brewmaster at Short’s Brewing tries to cure a hangover with a secret ale, he accidentally unleashes Michigan’s most infamous legend. Doghouse is a craft-brewed horror comedy about folklore, friendship, and the fine line between science and superstition.

Michigan has been slept on for too long. Our incredible cities, people, and beauty have always been our best kept secrets. It’s time to put us back on the map. For good.  Fear Michigan is a collaborative storytelling initiative seeking to showcase the impactful stories, companies, and sites that celebrate Michigan’s rich culture, environment, and history.

Our campaign’s aim is to invite audiences to experience a new kind of tourism by producing an interactive network of fictional stories released in tandem with products representative of a particular region’s lore.

Stories like Scary Cherry will bring new audiences to the Traverse City for more than just the cherries. Hair of the Dog, about a mad scientist on the hunt a prefect the perfect craft beer in order to defeat the Dogman (Michigan’s version of a werewolf), will celebrate Michigan’s best craft brewing companies and culture.

And this is just the beginning.
